About working with their hands
We have seen that by making the hand
the primary target in our treatment and educational plan, the children
will develop better hand function; using grasp, release and hold, they
also learn fixation, mobility and balance. These abilities combined with
midline orientation will aid their concentration and attention span, their focussing and eye following. All these skills combined with
better sensory discrimination will aid the child's performance in the
classroom. The abnormal motor patterns have also been replaced by more
normal action patterns; in short, a result succinctly expressed by
Professor Peto when he said: "by treating the hand, we get a lot for
nothing".
